While we have a minute
Welcoming the slow down if even for just a minute
While there are a million things to do typically I always feel this renewed sense of relaxation as fall arrives…. this was the only line I wrote on a post draft dated September 21st. So that tells me I actually did not have a minute, I am sure I got interrupted and just could not get the writing mojo back that day or week or I guess for the last couple of months? Anyway- I am here now! Happy Holidays and if you are taking the time to read this during this busy season - thank you for coming for a visit!
My original point when I initially started to write this post was that fall is the season I often find myself feeling inspired and make a list of things to accomplish, new goals, new business ideas, trips I would like to take, projects I would like to start, you get the idea. That happened this year as well along with a bit of traveling, garden clean up and work mixed in, and suddenly here we are sprinting towards Christmas and the New Year. I am definitely not a new year new goals kind of girl, when the new year hits I find myself drained and a little sad usually, so I guess I try and cram it all in before hand. This year I am trying to keep the momentum up on a few projects that I have been wanting to work on for years, my son says that there is no time like now, so I have been researching and doing some work on one of my bigger bucket list items that I have keep on the back burner forever, writing a design book.
I am a huge lover of books whether it is a design book, garden and plant book, or a good old romance novel, I am constantly reading something and there are books scattered around the house like dust, with the stacks constantly being rummaged through, to satisfy my curiosity, need for escape or inspiration, whatever mood strikes me (my kindle is one of my prized possessions). In this process of writing down what I want to make my book about I realized a few things, first of all it’s hard to narrow down what I love about design and how I would like to share all of that with readers and design enthusiasts, just to have that thought pushed around by the idea of how the heck do you get a book idea out there to publishers and how would it all get photographed?! After a few months of working things through I have done a bunch of research, created an outline, and as I am a 100% visual person, a mock up of some layout concepts I like. So now I am working on expanding all of that to make it a presentable package that at some point I will send out to someone who can help me get things moving in the right direction. All of this really pulls on my instant gratification strings and gives me a little stress point.
In my heart this book would be about all the things that make for a beautiful space that is engaging, comfortable, usable and unique. Which in my mind is the ultimate goal for any design project- home, office, or public space, what have you. Think lots of photos, details and inspiration. With that said I will be nurturing this idea and it’s concepts into the new year and hope to have something to send off in January, fingers crossed. I am curious how does your inspiration calendar run? Do you follow the “New Year New You” concept or does your inspiration take off when things look a little different? I would love to hear about your big bucket list items too!
Wishing you the Happiest of Holiday Seasons just in case I don’t get back here before then!
